Job description
Applications are invited for a Band 6 Research Assistant post in Dementia based jointly at the Centre for Dementia Studies, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, University of Sussex site and the Dementia Research Unit, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Crowborough, East Sussex. It is hoped the successful applicant will join us as soon as possible. The post is one year fixed term in first instance.
The appointed Research Assistant will work on dementia research project/s carried out at the Centre for Dementia Studies under the supervision of Professor Tabet. Previous experience working with people living with dementia or older people in general in either clinical or research capacity is an advantage, as is involvement in national research studies. The post will provide opportunities to develop further various clinical research skills in the dementia field. These obtained skills will also be transferrable to other research areas.
As well as working with colleagues at the medical school, you will have the opportunity to work with clinical research colleagues based at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Opportunities may also exist to obtain an NHS Research passport to allow access to clinical research participants.
The post will involve contacting patients and carers to help in recruitment, liaising with study coordinator, carrying out qualitative research interviews and obtaining, recording and analysing data under supervision. Some of our studies are multicentre and part of the appointed researcher role will involve liaising with national research colleagues at other England centres.
During your time in this post you will receive regular supervision and training on all aspect of the clinical studies and you will be supported to advance your continuous professional development and future academic/training interests. You will have the opportunity to contribute to research papers and to be cited as co-author on relevant publications.
The successful candidate will demonstrate good oral and writing skills and will be a good communicator. The ability to work productively with other researchers is a requirement for the post. While it is not essential, a Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field of study is an advantage.
