ShareA vacancy for a Research Assistant is available for 18 months to work on the exciting Academy of Medical Sciences-funded study ‘Novel customisable peptide-based biomaterials for healthcare applications’.
You will synthesise and test new material chemistries to create modifiable ‘smart’ biomaterials for various healthcare applications, including but not limited to regenerative medicine and soft robotics. This interdisciplinary project builds on the strengths of the department, providing an opportunity to collaborate with several groups in the Department of Life Sciences and capitalise on the excellent facilities offered by the University.
We particularly encourage applications from individuals who have experience in peptide chemistry, materials science, and mammalian cell culture.
You will carry out peptide-based experiments including synthesis and characterisation towards creating modifiable implantable materials. These materials will be tested against clinically relevant materials for in vitro cell compatibility and promotion of functional differentiation. This will require you to work independently under the guidance of Dr. Nazia Mehrban, providing regular updates at team meetings.
You will be expected to have a proven track record in high-impact research, from the initiation stage through to completion of research manuscripts. You will also be expected to work with students, staff and other postdocs as required.
Further information
For informal enquiries about the role please contact Dr. Nazia Mehrban ([email protected]). Please note that all applications must be submitted via the University website.
