Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

The Academy for Medical Sciences (AMS) have awarded a grant to Dr Yutaka Matsubayashi in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology. The project is entitled “Investigating the mechanisms that orchestrate basement membrane formation – toward the invention of future therapies”. The basement membrane is an extracellular matrix that is evolutionarily conserved and essential for animal tissue development and function, and whose anomalies cause various human diseases such as brain haemorrhage, kidney dysfunction, and skin fragility.

Duties include maintaining fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) stocks and carrying out experiments on them. Experiences in genetics, molecular/cell/developmental/quantitative/systems biology, live imaging, and bioinformatics are greatly appreciated but not essential. Applicants who want to learn techniques in these disciplines are welcome.

For further information about the position, please contact Yutaka Matsubayashi at [email protected].

This position is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 18 months from the employment start date.

BU values and is committed to an inclusive working environment.
