Job description
We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team in Nottingham. You will have a BSc in life sciences or a related discipline, aseptic technique and basic microbiology skills.
Are you an experienced fermentation technician or a recent life – science graduate? If so, this is a great opportunity for a Research Assistant to support the fermentation process for recombinant protein products. The site you will be joining is expanding and you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment. You will join the Technical Support Group to improve productivity, titre, yield, efficiency and robustness of protein products.
This role is based in central Nottingham, the site is a short walk from the train station and tram stop so it is easily accessible.

What you will accomplish together with us
Provide practical support for biopharmaceutical manufacturing of upstream process steps (shake – flask, seeds, main fermenter, cell separation)
Operation of fermentation experiments using Benchtop Bioreactors (0.5 – 2L) and Pilot Bioreactor (20-200L). Including CIP, SIP, calibration, media preparation, feeding, seeding, inoculation fermentation monitoring and harvesting
Prepare test and release laboratory growth media, preparation of reagents and buffers
Prepare, clean and sterile glassware and plasticware
Maintain records and keep laboratory notebooks up to date
Interpret results, prepare data summaries and basic reports and recommend future action
Provide practical fermentation support to generate albumin – based products for enhanced service projects and application areas
Running daily laboratory operations such as balances, pH meters, spectrophotometer, centrifuge, autoclave etc.
