The Public Health and Society Research Group within the Department of Health Sciences is looking for an organised, motivated and enthusiastic research assistant to provide research and administrative support to mixed methods and participatory research projects focusing on healthy and sustainable livelihoods, led by Dr Maddy Power and Dr Amy Barnes:
- Food for Thought: Understanding ethnic variations in the prevalence and experience of food insecurity, and its interaction with mental health;
- Building an evidence base on community wealth building as a public health intervention and way to create a wellbeing economy

Role
The purpose of the role is to provide administrative and research support to projects focusing on the importance of livelihoods for sustainable population health and wellbeing. The role will include: organising meetings; assisting with project set up, including recruiting and engaging with research participants; engaging with stakeholders (e.g. advisory group members, practice and policy partners); and project administration and research assistance (e.g. conducting qualitative data collection - under supervision of more senior members of the team, inputting and cleaning data, supporting the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data (with guidance), and contributing to the writing of reports and briefings).
Please note this is a fixed term role available until 31/08/2024.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- Knowledge of wider determinants of health and/or food insecurity, poverty and the challenges of living on a low income
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, different people in a community and external stakeholders
- Good planning, administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines
- Experience of engaging effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and/or with people with experience of living on a low income
- Willingness to learn new skills, work flexibly and to a high quality
