Research Assistant Oxford, England

University of Oxford
Full Time Oxford, England 32332 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Full-time, fixed-term until 31st March 2025.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the research group of Dr Oliver Stone at the University of Oxford. The lab studies the formation of the vertebrate vasculature, with an emphasis on understanding the specification of lymphatic endothelial cells, a cell type that forms the inner layer of lymphatic vessels. Lymphatic endothelial cells play important roles during embryonic development, organ homeostasis and tissue regeneration, however our understanding how they are formed in humans is very limited. The Research Assistant will contribute to the establishment of novel in vitro models of human lymphatic endothelial cell development, which will allow us to answer important questions about human development.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the culture and experimental analyses of cells derived from human embryonic stem cells. You will receive training in a wide range of techniques that include cell culture, molecular biology, immunofluorescence imaging and Western blotting.
We require all applicants to hold, or be near completion of, a first degree. You will need excellent communication skills and will be required to manage your own research and administrative activities with the support of senior members of the group. A commitment to engaging with, and promoting awareness of, equality, diversity and inclusion and embedding these into your work is essential.
This is a full-time post funded by the John Fell Fund, available from 1st October 2023 until 31st March 2025. The position is based at the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), IMS-Tetsuya Nakamura Building, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7TY.
This position is graded on the University Grade 6 scale. The actual starting salary is fixed. Informal enquiries may be directed to the DPAG HR Team: [email protected]
The closing date for applications is midday on Friday 25th August 2023.
Interviews are likely to be held in the week beginning 4th September 2023.
Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
We, as a Department and Community, will be considerate and welcoming of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. We acknowledge societal inequalities and how these impact us, and those around us, personally and professionally. – DPAG Statement of Inclusion
