UE06 £ 30,619.00 - £35,308.00 Per Annum, Pro Rata.
CMVM / MRC Human Genetics Unit.
Fixed-Term Contract - 24 Months; Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week.
A research assistant is sought for a two-year post in Professor Yanick Crow's group, to support work investigating human diseases associated with enhanced interferon-mediated signalling.
The candidate will be detail-oriented, motivated to learn and master new techniques, and effective in managing her/his own time and workload in order to meet project deadlines.
The opportunity:
This is a unique opportunity to join a team of scientists recognised internationally for work on Mendelian disorders associated with an upregulation of type I interferon signalling; proceeding from clinical definition, through gene identification, to functional characterisation of underlying pathology (see Nat Rev Immunol 2022;22:471-83 for an overview). We will encourage the development of your research portfolio through involvement in all aspects of the life of the laboratory.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- BSc in Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology or a closely related subject.
- Laboratory experience, particularly in cell culture, cloning and site-directed mutagenesis.
- Specific skills relating to all or several of the following techniques: plasma / serum / PBMC preparation, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, RT-PCR, qPCR, western blotting.
- Ability to apply relevant knowledge, skills and techniques in research.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Excellent knowledge of scientific English for speaking, reading, and writing.
