Job description
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 months with the possibility of extension.
A Research Assistant position is available at the Department of Computer Science and Technology to work on the ERC-funded Interdisciplinary Cybercrime Project (iCrime). We are looking to appoint a statistician to join an interdisciplinary team reporting to Dr Alice Hutchings.
iCrime incorporates interdisciplinary expertise to research cybercrime offenders, their crime type, the place (such as online black markets), and the response. Within iCrime, we sustain robust data collection infrastructure to gather unique, high quality datasets, and design novel methodologies to identify and measure criminal infrastructure at scale. This is particularly important as cybercrime changes dynamically. Overall, our approach is evaluative, critical, and data driven.
Successful applicants will work in a team to undertake statistical analysis and write research outputs. Desirable technical skills include:
- Expertise in Monte Carlo algorithms to estimate sizes of populations
- Familiarity with RStudio, MATLAB, Python
- Expertise in large-scale databases, including relational databases (SQL/Postgres)
The position includes membership of the USS pension scheme.
Good knowledge of English and communication skills are important.
We expect to notify those shortlisted for interview in July and conduct interviews shortly thereafter. The expectation is that the successful candidate will start work as soon as possible.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Alice Hutchings ([email protected]).
