Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant in Retinal Cell Biology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study Ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017).
This Research Assistant post offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in research into inherited retinal disease in a highly successful and dynamic research group.
About the role
The Research Assistant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on a project to explore the molecular mechanisms of retinal degeneration.
The position would suit an ambitious graduate with a background and interest in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, genetics, retinal cell biology, or stem cell derived models of disease. The successful candidate would ideally have experience with molecular biology techniques, stem cell culture and/or microscopy. (S)he will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and with established collaborators, to investigate the molecular mechanisms of inherited retinal degeneration using iPSC derived 3D retinal organoids to explore how structural variants cause retinal degeneration.
The appointed individual will join a collaborative team led by Prof Alison Hardcastle and Prof Mike Cheetham.
The position is funded by Foundation Fighting Blindness.
This role will be available until 12 August 2024 in the first instance.
Salary: UCL Grade 6B (£36,832- £37,482) Inclusive of London Allowance.
About you
The successful applicant should have a minimum of a BSc or MSc in a relevant subject, laboratory experience, excellent communication skills and show a strong commitment to high quality research.
The will be interested in investigating models of disease using stem cells models and enjoy working as a team as well as the ability to work independently.
