Job description
The Division of Psychology and Mental Health is looking to appoint a Research Assistant on a Fixed Term contract (7 months).
The Research Assistant will work on a project funded by the N8 Policing Research Partnership, examining the sexual offending patterns of registered sexual offenders in Greater Manchester, to understand risk and recidivism between online and contact offenders.
Understanding patterns of offending is paramount to managing the risk of recidivism. The project aims to categorise offenders into typologies and examine pre and post index offence offending patterns. The research will produce an initial analytical profile of current non-contact online offenders to understand the range of crime incidents recorded. Non-contact online only offenders are likely to have different needs to contact offenders and could benefit from different interventions.
This study involves the accurate and conscientious collection of offence data held by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), drawn from electronic databases such as iOPS and the Police National Computer (PNC). As such, the post would suit a researcher with quantitative data collection and management skills, with an eye to detail and dedication to accuracy and precision. We provide a supportive, training environment where individual skill and commitment is valued and nurtured. The post holder will be expected to ensure data compliance with GMP and UoM operational and requirements in addition to legislative requirements, GDPR, Data Protection.
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
