SCHOOL OF FINANCE AND MANAGEMENT
We are a leading school for research in finance and management that aims to enhance theoretical and empirical understanding of finance and management in a global
context. Our research combines specialist knowledge of financial and management systems in Asia, Africa and the Middle East with more conventional international analysis of Europe and the Americas. We draw on a long tradition of management research that dates from Edith Penrose’s pioneering work in the 1950’s on the theory of the growth of the firm, large international corporations, oil economies, patents, innovation and economic development, to our present day focus on key topics in international finance and management.
The role and responsibilities
The position is designed to provide research assistance to the Principal Investigator, Professor Christine Oughton, on a project examining patent citations in China and South Africa. It involves exploring patent data bases and tracing the number and pattern of citations of specific patents in selected industries, including the hybrid and electric vehicles industries. The research includes identifying the main patent data bases, searching for citations and creating and managing a database of patent citations.
