Title: Research Associate (Livestock)

Salary: £35,267 - £40,836 (under review)

An exciting opportunity has arisen at SRUC’s Beef and Sheep Research Centre within the Department of Agriculture, and Land-Based Engineering . We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to support and contribute to SRUC’s growing precision livestock farming activities as well as to support our research activities in greenhouse gas emission measurement and mitigation.
Main responsibilities:
- Research, development and project management activity to support research activities in the following areas: production efficiency, precision livestock farming and greenhouse gas emissions (including mitigation strategies).
- Maintenance and management of specialist research facilities (associated with feed efficiency and greenhouse gas measurement).
- Conduct analysis of research data (including machine learning, carbon modelling).
- Production of peer-reviewed scientific publications, scientific reviews and technical reports.
- Participate in a range of knowledge exchange activities to disseminate research outcomes/new knowledge.
- Contribute to development of future grant proposals.
- Contribute to SRUC’s undergraduate teaching activities (delivery of lectures, tutorials and assessments).
- Assist with regular liaison between project partners and funders.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in agricultural, animal science or a relevant discipline. Good people skills, attention to detail and communication skills are also required. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently, and with other team members, to ensure that accurate results are delivered to agreed deadlines.
The post-holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Line Manager. The post holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work, and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of SRUC regulations and procedures.
