Job description
Ionic liquids are an exciting class of liquids with many applications. Key to their success is understanding their dynamical behaviours. We are looking to appoint a Research Associate to investigate the structure and dynamics of ionic liquids with Pulse EPR spectroscopy. You will join the groups of Dr Maxie Roessler and Prof Tom Welton in the Department of Chemistry as part of a Leverhulme Trust funded project entitled “Synchronized Structure and Dynamics Investigations of Ionic Liquids by Pulse EPR”, and be part of the Centre of Pulse EPR Spectroscopy (PEPR).
Duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for designing, measuring and interpreting continuous-wave and pulse EPR experiments following the synthesis of ionic liquids in collaboration with other members of the team. You will be expected to plan and carry out research, to write up results for publication and oral presentations, to liaise with collaborators, and to assist in the support of research students.
Essential requirements
The following are essential requirements for the role:
- To hold or be near completion of a PhD, or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience, in Chemistry, where EPR spectroscopy played a major role
- Experience in pulse EPR spectroscopy
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people, along with team working skills
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication
- Ability to plan and conduct research independently
The following are desirable requirements for the role:
- A strong theoretical foundation in EPR spectroscopy with nitroxide spin labels
- Experience with ionic liquids
Further information
This is a full time, fixed term position for 9 months from October 2023. You will be based at White City Campus.
- Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,694 - £39,888 per annum
