Job description
This is a two-year project with first a year at MIT and then a year at Imperial. We seek to advance the collaboration across our institutes and are looking for a qualified Research Assistant / Associate to contribute to the team and conduct research on understanding, quantifying, and mitigating the impacts of aircraft contrails.
Candidates must have a background in at least one of: atmospheric physics; climate science; air transportation systems; aerospace emissions modelling; or aircraft performance. MIT and Imperial College will be conducting separate but coordinated selection processes. Candidates should submit to both institutions their C.V., a cover letter, and contact information for up to three references.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct research in the area of aircraft condensation trail impact evaluation and mitigation.
- Collaborate with our teams across both universities working on contrail identification, modelling, and operational avoidance.
- Publish research results in leading journals and conferences.
- Collaborate with graduate students working on related research projects.
- Other duties as needed or required.
Essential requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in English communication and excellent technical writing skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills desired.
- The ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary team setting, prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, and execute detailed technical protocols.
- Self-motivated and ability to prioritize and multitask.
Those appointed at Research Associate level
Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in aerospace engineering, atmospheric science, or a related field.
Those appointed at Research Assistant level
A first / masters degree (or equivalent) in aerospace engineering or a closely related discipline.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant level.
