About us
UCL’s world-leading research in new materials and related areas span a range of disciplines across the institution. The UCL Institute for Materials Discovery (IMD) was established in 2014 within the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS) . The mission of IMD is to link fundamental materials, chemistry, physics, engineering and biological principles across the institution, to create new opportunities and developments in clean energy, nanotechnology, engineering and biomedicine. The IMD works closely and collaboratively with Department of Chemistry and the postholder will be expected to engage and network with the Chemistry Departmental professional services team, and will ensure that processes in both areas are closely aligned.
About the role
The role will specialise in administering the research and financial activities of the institute, ensuring effective procedures are documented and adopted for dealing with all aspects including processing financial transactions, procurement and grant applications. The post will lead in achieving a high quality and timely service to staff, students and others internal and external to the department The role will include management for all matters relating to the MyFinance system. They will provide financial information and reports for the Institute Director to monitor expenditure. They will help in monitoring grants, budgets, expenditure enquiries and arrange reimbursement of expenditure to staff and students They shall also provide support for staff developing grant applications, particularly relating to creating budgets. The role holder will work with the Institute Director to ensure financial and research administration processes are efficient, explained clearly and adhered to. This is a full-time permanent role, available from 01 August 2023.
About you
The post-holder will be educated to A Level (Minimum of 2 at grade C or above), or equivalent, or having acquired relevant skills in Finance. They will possess knowledge of financial processes and regulations associated with general financial administration and excellent oral and written communication skills which enable the post holder to liaise and interact with a variety of people at all levels of the university. They will have experience of generating financial costings for research grant applications be able to prepare and co-ordinate accurate financial reports for a variety of uses.
