To be considered for this role, you will have proven experience working as a R&D Scientist/Associate or similar within a fast-paced environment. You will also be motivated, resilient and have a real interest in continuous personal development.
What will you be responsible for?
· Designing, developing, optimising and executing a broad range of microbiological processing and analytical approaches suitable for research or other areas of the business.
· Performing experimental data analysis, authoring company reports, quality documentation, standard operating procedures, scientific publications and presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
· Delivering progress and data reports at laboratory and inter-disciplinary meetings.
· Help to identify and develop novel scientific techniques bespoke to product presentations within EnteroBiotix.
· Play an active role in laboratory management tasks such as maintaining inventories of consumables, ordering, budget tracking, and scheduling equipment maintenance.
· Contribute to a safe working environment by participating in Health and Safety activities such as Risk Assessments, COSHH and near miss reporting.
· Collaborating with colleagues across other technical areas of the business, including working closely with Manufacturing and Quality Control.
· Develop commercial awareness, networking and project management skills.
· Be responsible for personal standards of safety and cleanliness.
· Maintaining own training records and pro-actively seeking out development opportunities.
What are we looking for?
Essential
· Proven experience in a similar role.
· PhD or equivalent scientific experience in microbiology or another relevant life science discipline.
· Experience performing practical microbiological techniques such as anaerobic culture, strain isolation, and genetic analyses.
· Good document and record keeping.
· Experience with laboratory Health and Safety such as COSHH and Risk Assessments.
· Experience in the field of microbiome and/or complex microbial communities.
· Strong IT literacy skills: including use of MS suite of software and statistical analyses
of microbiological data.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Able to work within a fast-paced environment and prioritise workload effectively.
· Must display personal accountability for results and integrity.
· Able to demonstrate problem solving, decision making and influencing skills.
· Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
· Hands on experience in the field of faecal microbiology or microbiome research.
· Prior experience working in an industrial research environment.
· Experience handling and interpreting large and complex datasets.
· Familiarity with viability assays, anaerobic sample handling and 16s rRNA sequencing.
· Working knowledge in bacterial identification and pathogen detection techniques.
