The Role:
An opportunity has arisen for an Energy and Utilities Research Analyst to join M&G’s Climate team to support our thematic and stock level sustainability research to drive investment ready analysis.
A successful candidate will have experience in either existing research analysis of this sector or a deep understanding of the sector to support their development of research skills to fulfil the role.
Key Responsibilities for this role:
  • Produce high quality investment ready sustainability research on the Energy and Utilities sector at stock, sector and across thematic issues
  • Effectively communicate research findings to enable integration into investment decision making
  • Contribute to thematic research, particularly identifying investment opportunities across the global economy for innovative and disruptive companies that are driving structural & foundational changes in the global economy
  • Help scale our thematic engagement activities across the investment platform by collaborating on bottom-up research and analysis
  • Consolidate and build up detailed stock coverage, and expand our existing proprietary database of companies with alternative datasets
  • Assume wider responsibility for tracking thematic segments across our thematic universe and key players within those segments
  • Closely follow trends and evolutions in individual themes and ensure our investment strategies continue to reflect them well
  • Contribute to investment theses, including models, and valuation methodologies
  • Publish thought leadership pieces and generate content related to our themes through detailed articles and white papers
  • Collaborate with 3rd party experts and explore new, unique, and alternative datasets; interact with constituent companies to learn and understand their business models better
  • Be committed to developing an existing depth of climate knowledge over time
  • Contribute to and support development of external climate materials, including marketing initiatives and industry events.
  • Contribute to the wider Stewardship & Sustainability agenda.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Demonstrable experience as a research analyst in the Energy and Utilities sector or
  • Experience in delivering analysis and research with demonstratable professional experience in empowering decision making using analytical solutions
  • Good understanding of climate and sustainability issues as they pertain to the Energy and Utilities sector
  • A degree in science, finance, or economics, with demonstratable numerical and analytical skillset.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement/management, and ability to build good relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to produce high quality reports/deliverables suitable for a senior audience.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Proactive with individual accountability; takes ownership to drive delivery forwards without instruction.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to design and implement solutions.
  • Integrity and strong work ethic with a positive outlook and belief in our purpose.
