Full time contract: 35 hours per week
Open ended contract: Permanent
The Opportunity:
This opportunity is one of two posts providing efficient and effective administrative support and guidance to ECA in all areas related to research support activities. Supporting and advising academic research staff on funding opportunities and potential income generation activities (both externally and internally funded), including detailed guidance on award criteria, applications, ethics checks and data management plus post award financial administration and support for a defined portfolio of research grants.
All members of the team provide cover for each other to ensure adequate service across the Research, KE and Innovation Office when other members of the team are on leave or to maintain adequate service at peak times.
Skills and Attributes for Success
- Educated to at least N/SVQ 3 or equivalent level, plus relevant administrative work experience in an HEI Research Office environment
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills: ability to exercise judgement and initiative to work without direct supervision and prioritise own work within the annual cycle and in response to academic-driven developments.
- Ability to sustain a high performance whilst under pressure.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal competence,
- High degree of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail (particularly in maintaining financial data and assisting in costing activities for grant applications)
- Strong IT skills and ability to quickly learn to use a range of packages including non-standard systems, such as PURE (REF submission) and Worktribe (grant preparation and maintenance).
- Ability to work as a team member and to motivate and guide others.
- Excellent IT, data and digital skills, including Microsoft Office and reporting tools with the awareness and capacity to update these skills in line with advances in technology and requirements of the role
- Ability to work both within a team and, independently with minimum supervision, and to solve problems as they arise.
