Your new role
Hitachi Rail have a fantastic opportunity for an experience Engineer to join our Requirements Management team as a Requirements Management Engineer. This role is key within our Engineering department as it will ensure the end to end management of requirements for high profile rolling stock projects. You will work across all projects including process improvement, Governance and potentially HS2.
As a Requirements Management Engineer you will be responsible for capturing, analysing, developing and managing technical requirements throughout the entire project lifecycle. Within this role you will work with a number of stakeholder across various teams, both internally and externally so it is essential that the successful candidate have strong communication and stakeholder management skills. In doing all of the above whilst maintaining full tractability and coverage of requirements is to ensure a wholly compliant rolling stock product.
Please note this is a 18 month fixed term contract.

About you…
Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the essential requirements listed below:
Essential
- Proven experience in Requirement Management Systems, including processes and tools.
- Proven experience in Systems Engineering, including the delivery of design, development, testing of engineering solutions.
- Track record of applying technical knowledge to support other internal functions. Rail experience.
- Rolling Stock experience.
- Knowledge and experience of standards and regulations (NTSNs/Rail Group Standards/Common Safety Methods) within the railway business.
- Ability to understand and interpret these standards to derive requirements.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with experience of dealing with customer, supplier and stakeholder bodies.
- Experience of dealing across country boundaries and cultures.
- Ability to work on own initiative, remote from main offices (domestic and international) when required, and accept responsibility for delivery.
- Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
- Able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
Desirable
- Experience in all phases of a project, from bid through to design, manufacture, test, acceptance, delivery, operational development.
- Experience in design assurance and certification activities.
- Experience of programming in DXL.
- Experience of using IBM DOORs.
- Degree level in Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered engineering status.
- Membership of a recognised accredited engineering body.
Role responsibilities include…
- Provide support for existing and new projects.
- Ensure that Requirement Management process is efficient and effective, and propose new ideas for continuous improvements.
- Assist in the need for continuous improvement of the foundations (e.g. vehicle architecture) that support the Requirement Management process.
- Capture and derive requirements from contractual and legislative documentation and support the allocation of these to relevant functions.
- Ensure full bi-directional traceability between requirements and validation and verification activities.
- Use DOORS as the dedicated Requirements Management tool and manage the DOORS requirements database
- Interface with and assist other Hitachi Rail functions (particularly design engineering teams) to make important decisions to ensure that vehicle design is optimised to demonstrate compliance to requirements.
- Ensure design documentation and validation evidence are correctly linked to technical requirements.
- Allocate and assist in the management of requirements to internal and external stakeholders (Japan, Italy and sub-suppliers).
- Identify risks at all stages of the project. Develop and execute plans to resolve these risks.
- Attend design review meetings, providing assistance to the Project Engineering nad Design teams.
- Provide support to the production of technical deliverables for bids.
- Present regular status updates and KPIs to the project management teams.
- All other responsibilities allocated from line managers.
