University Hospitals Dorset - Poole & Bournemouth X-ray departments are looking for Band 5 radiographers to join the X-ray teams.
All new starters are supported with induction and preceptorship providing radiographers the opportunity to undertake a structured program of self-development in all aspects of the x-ray including audit, equipment and techniques. This is actively supported by in-house run CPD sessions and the opportunity to attend external training/learning events.

UHD Poole Hospital X-ray department is almost completely digital radiography (DR). We currently have two Philips DigitalDiagnost modalities in our ED rooms, installed to support the high demand of our area. Our general rooms have a mixture of Samsung and Fuji DR. Mobile examinations are performed using Carestream DR Revolution’s. The X-ray department also supports very busy trauma theatres with a number of image intensifier units. In addition to orthopaedic demands, we also provide theatre radiography for ERCP, cardiac pacing and other general cases. We are also in the process of replacing one of general rooms and fluoro rooms to the latest imaging technology.
Successful radiographers joining the x-ray team will also have the opportunity to rota through our Canon CT scanners.
Successful candidates, as UHD Radiographers, will have the opportunity to work at Poole & Bournemouth hospitals. There is an expectation for successful candidates to be competent and participate in all general X-ray imaging, theatre imaging & dental radiography. Furthermore successful candidates will be expected to participate in the shift rota’s allowing 24/7 X-ray services.
All Band 5 Radiographers are encouraged to extend and develop their clinical skills and knowledge by undertaking a rotation to specialist areas, which can include CT, Cardiac, Interventional, DEXA, Mammography and Ultrasound. Furthermore, we are committed to role extension, with the department training Radiographers in Plain image Reporting, Fluoroscopy procedures and Ultrasound. Our Reporting Radiographers all actively report ED, GP, out and in-patient radiographs with a mix of speciality in Appendicular, Axial and Chest reporting. Fluoroscopic Radiographers cover busy interventional lists inclusive of barium swallow lists, arthrograms, proctograms, and HSG’s.

Exciting opportunities awaiting at UHD Radiology with the opportunity to join us on our journey with the development of the new BEACH unit at the Royal Bournemouth site to host the major emergency hospital for Dorset to cater for the future healthcare needs of our region. Poole Hospital has recently just opened the new state of the art Barn Theatres, in anticipation of providing the required planned operative care for our patients. Developments and changes taking place will involve approximately £147 million investment in our region’s health services, an increase of over 1000 hospital beds and further development over the UHD sites over the next few years.
The Royal Bournemouth Hospital also has one largest and busiest Coronary Angioplasty and Cardiac Pacing Centres in the UK and is the Vascular Network Hub for all complex vascular activity accepting patients from the surrounding areas of Salisbury, Dorchester and Poole.
At UHD we are fortunate to have installed modern, well-equipped X-ray departments boasting mainly Philips & Samsung X-ray equipment. In addition across UHD radiology we have 7 MRI scanners, 6 CT scanners, 4 cardiac angiography labs and a 2 room Interventional Radiology Suites. Other specialities include DEXA scanning and digital fluoroscopy. The directorate will perform over 220,000 examinations this year with a team of over 150 Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners across the UHD sites.
