Position:
To advise on and supervise Drugs examinations, report results and present evidence in court.
The role holder will join a team that is expanding to build upon its success. They will be expected to work flexibly within the team and collaboratively with other departments in order to meet customer requirements.
There are opportunities for reporters across the range of case types covered by the team, from identification and quantification cases to cannabis yield cases and comparison cases.

Requirements:*
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage own resources including a personal case load, taking responsibility for personal continued professional development.
- Determine the forensic examination to be undertaken.
- Undertake the technical analysis of forensic samples.
- Assign meaningful conclusions to forensic findings.
- Prepare written reports regarding forensic submissions.
- Provide expert evidence to courts.

Skills & Competencies*
- Ability to analyse materials for controlled substances by using analytical techniques including IR, GC-MS and HPLC.
- A customer focus with demonstrable commercial acumen.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including well developed reporting and presentation skills.
- Problem solving skills and an ability to deal with complexity coupled with managing a high workload.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong IT capability with an ability to analyse data and formulate decisions accordingly.
- Analytical thinking, including planning and scheduling.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal with conflict through to resolution.

- Scientific or related degree essential.

Experience*
- Previous experience in the forensic reporting of drugs and experience as a court-going reporting scientist would be advantageous.
- Training in the role will be provided to successful candidates who meet the profile but have no experience.

The role is full time (37 hours per week) and based at our laboratory in Coventry.
