London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.
The Performance, Analysis and Improvement team are responsible for driving the business to continuously improve its reliability and performance through analysis and insight that enables the business to prioritise effort, deliver value, and support realisation of our business strategy.
The role is based within the Data Quality and Reporting team, responsible for building consistency and improving the overall trustworthiness and quality of business data alongside production of regular reports.
We are looking to recruit a Reporting Analyst to be responsible for producing a variety of reports and analytical requests. This will include visualising data, building reports and providing commentary based on numerous data sources and systems.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for providing transactional and reporting support to the business, and providing management information and commentary
- Building and producing non-automated performance reports and dashboards from complex data sets and systems, and producing non-automated scorecard metrics in line with the business needs and priorities whilst adhering to applicable standards
- Creating and updating any technical documentation in relation to reporting activities, to ensure compliance with internal audit requirements and work instructions
- Managing and tracking headline metrics and provide regular updates to the Data Quality & Reporting Manager and stakeholders
- Responding to ad-hoc queries in relation to performance data including to Freedom of Information requests and Mayor’s Questions.
- Helping to implement improvements to data quality and reporting processes
- Establishing and maintaining a good, professional and pro-active working relationship with the senior management team and operational colleagues
- Delivering regular reports on performance issues including business progress towards scorecard targets and commentary on key trends to inform operational decisions
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Knowledge
- Educated to degree level, ideally in a numerate discipline, or equivalent level of experience
- Knowledge of appropriate data manipulation, management, analysis, reporting and information systems with a good understanding of analytics and data visualisation
- Broad knowledge of the current and emerging analytical and technology trends and developments
- Experience of using business intelligence and data visualization software such as PowerBI
- Knowledge of different data sources and analytical tools
- Good understanding of the Mayor's Transport strategy and LU's business priorities
- Knowledge of relevant national & international legislation pertaining to the Government/Public Sector – e.g. Data Protection Act, EU Procurement Directives, Freedom of Information Act, including knowledge of basic confidentiality & data protection requirements that apply to the processing of customer information
Skills
- Advanced analytical abilities, including using complex formulae and macros.
- Ability to communicate with stakeholders, to understand and challenge their requirements.
- Ability to draw conclusions, produce solutions and analyse complex data sets to explain operational performance.
- Strong numerate and financial understanding, with basic statistical knowledge
- Broad understanding of best practices in metrics design and data analytics
- Strong desire to learn and self-develop
- Ability to problem solve using data to interpret business problems.
- Strong attention to detail
Experience
- Experience in an analytical role and performance reporting in a complex business environment
- Experience of providing senior management level performance reports
- Experience of producing non-automated business performance reports
- Experience of operating in a multi-disciplinary environment (finance, engineering, operations, etc.)
