What we’re looking for
As we continue to develop and grow our global fertilizer market pricing team, we are looking for a passionate and driven reporter to join our team. You will initially be focusing on the global ammonia market (a key raw material for both nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer production), covering price developments, deals/sales, sales and purchase tenders as well as key policy and country-specific market developments. There will also be the opportunity to cover key news and developments around the rapidly evolving clean ammonia markets.
Why Fertilizers?
The global chemical fertilizer market, contrary to popular misconception is fascinating. The development of the market is vitally important in terms of boosting crop yields and feeding an expanding global population. Argus covers both global markets for the three primary nutrients (nitrogen, phosphates and potash) as well as compound NPKs and raw materials sulphur, sulphuric acid and ammonia. It also publishes regional reports for Brazil, North America, Europe and now Africa.
Fertilizers are vital to agricultural development. They are also vital to Argus’ bottom line. Global fertilizer trade is substantial at nearly 150mn t nitrogen, phosphates and potash.
In a competitive marketplace, Argus has invested heavily in its editorial resources. Our team is truly global, with editors/reporters located in London, Asia, North America, Latin America and Russia. This provides unrivalled granular coverage of local markets and implications at the global level.
This is not a dry market. Moreover, wider geopolitical issues have a profound effect on demand and supply. It is the reporter’s job to report not just deals, sales and prices, but to explain the effect of wider issues such as government agricultural and fertilizer policies, local subsidy, trade policy and upstream and downstream market developments.
This is an excellent opportunity to forge your career covering the economically and politically influential sector of the global fertilizer market. You will apply and develop your skills across daily/weekly news reporting, market analysis, features and editorials in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity. There are many opportunities to travel and present papers at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions. Argus runs numerous fertilizer conferences and the right candidate is positively encouraged to present and become an industry expert.
As part of a small team you will help in weekly and daily price assessments in the international market and write daily market commentaries and news as well as contribute to the weekly and daily ammonia reports. Being part of a small team also means there will be cross-training and plenty of opportunity to gain experience of other fertilizer markets, along with the opportunity to learn from our experienced Reporters/Editors – the Argus editorial team has expanded from a core nucleus of highly experienced editors following the acquisition of FMB in 2011 which already boasted over 30 years of industry expertise and an unrivalled reputation for accurate market reporting and analysis.
