Ocean Infinity is seeking a Remote Support DPO Navigator DPO (RSN) to provide additional lookout and other navigational decision support to the marine crew on board the ship, enabling Bridge Watchkeeping and deck operations to be conducted in a safe and efficient manner. These remote operators will conduct their role from the Southampton RCC where up to two RSNs will be on shift, per ship, at any one time. This is a 6-month fixed term contract.

What will you do:

  • Conduct monitoring operations to assist in the running of a navigational watch and assist Deck marine crew in their daily duties;
  • Remotely support the on-board Deck Department in the operation of the vessel. Conducting support tasks to reduce workload for the on-board crew and/or enhance the safety of the Bridge watchkeeping process;
  • Plan and schedule remote vessel operations;
  • Plan and supervise Cadets in training to ensure smooth and efficient operations;
  • Assist in the running of a navigational watch by acting as primary or additional lookout or other duties, as instructed;
  • Report any defects, sightings of other vessels, land, inclement weather or potentially hazardous objects or conditions or causes for concern to the OOW immediately and in line with Master’s Standing Orders;
  • Assist in GMDSS watchkeeping, as instructed, including monitoring and sending routine radio communications and monitoring distress frequencies;
  • Monitor navigational warnings received and ensuring all parties are aware;
  • Assist with onboard communications where instructed;
  • Implement and complete vessel checklists, documentation, risk assessments and other administrative tasks as delegated by the on-board crew;
  • Provide a “buddy system” for on board crew that are lone working by means of voice comms/CCTV monitoring;
  • Compile records and execute tasks within the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) as directed
  • Conduct security rounds of the vessel by CCTV;
  • Dynamic review of changes to voyage requirements of vessels underway and advising the marine crew accordingly;
  • Perform passage planning where trained to do so, and under the instruction of the marine crew;
  • Implement chart corrections, navigational warnings, T&P notices and navigational warnings to ECDIS and ensuring all required chart permits and licenses are valid;
  • Correct navigational and other statutory publications;
  • Monitor weather forecasts for all operational areas that vessels are in and advising vessel marine crew of warnings or inclement weather conditions;
  • Report any malfunction of any remote functionality to RCC Manager and/or official fault reporting system;
  • Effectively respond to vessel-based emergencies, contribute to vessel drills and other emergency exercises and carry out emergency response duties as described in the vessel´s emergency organization, such as by monitoring CCTV, performing SAR lookout or assisting with external communications;
  • Be familiar with and follow relevant parts, procedures and requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) contained within the management system;
  • Submit feedback and improvement suggestions on the content of the Safety Management System (SMS);
  • Support proactive safety measures including contributing to safety meetings, safety inspections and the reporting of safety-related occurrences;
  • Operational support to improve safety and risk management in the fleet and promotion of a robust safety culture in support of safety and operational excellence;
  • Utilize experience gained as a Remote Support Navigator to provide input to the improvement/development of processes and procedures for remote/uncrewed operation;
  • Additional duties and areas of responsibility as delegated by OOW.



Who you are:

  • Certified DPO with valid STCW OOW UK CoC/CEC ( STCW II/3) certification;
  • Holder of valid STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW A-V1/1-4);
  • GMDSS General Operator Certificate (STCW A-IV/2);
  • Medically fit (valid ENG1) although medicals with restrictions considered as reasonable adjustments may be possible due to the onshore nature of position;
  • ECDIS Generic Certification is strongly preferred;
  • Aptitude and interest in the operation of vessels remotely including strong digital and computer skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and administrative skills;
  • Supervisory skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Forward-thinking and willing to challenge and change;
  • Enthusiastic about protecting people and the planet;
  • Critical thinking and ability to show initiative;
  • Integrity, credibility and maturity for confidential issues.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in marine survey, marine data acquisition and/or subsea inspection, maintenance or repair operations preferable.
