Job description

Do you want to help customers with their housing situation?

Do you put customers at the heart of what you do?

Do you have the resilience to thrive in a busy working environment? Do you want to be part of a productive and successful team?

If so, we would love you to apply for the post of Rehousing Officer in the Registrations Team.

The role This is a fantastic opportunity to join the busy and exciting Rehousing Service.

Rehousing Officers provide a range of operational and support functions to support customers who have a housing need. Your role will focus on helping customers to apply for housing: assessing their application and their eligibility to be on the housing register, and also managing applications on the housing register.

A key aspect of the role involves working with internal and external partners to ensure the housing needs of our customers are met.

Excellent prioritisation skills are needed along with the ability to stay calm under pressure.

Working within the limits of the accommodation resources available, it is not always possible to meet the accommodation aspirations of our customers; it is therefore crucial to be understanding of customers’ needs whilst managing customer expectations.

You will be working in a team with skilled and experienced Officers, Specialists and Managers who will be on hand to support you. Who we are looking for To be successful, you will demonstrate a clear customer focus, with an ability to prioritise and organise your work.

We need excellent communicators who work well on their own initiative but are also flexible team players. It is important to be resilient and hardworking, with a keenness to learn. We are committed to fairness and social justice and welcome applications from everyone.

We value our diverse workforce and aim to work together to make the most of our differences and particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of using support services. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.

This role is for 16 hours per week, over 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.

We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities, which benefit you and the Council.

This position is based in Howden House office and currently we operate a hybrid working pattern with the expectation of 80% attendance in office.

When completing the ‘Your Suitability’ section of the application form, please tell us how your experience matches the points listed in the ‘Person Specification’ section of the Job Description.

If you can provide examples, that would be helpful.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application
