Job description
Would you like to work for a team that is tackling climate change?

We are looking for people who appreciate how regulation of business and industry can make a big contribution to a more sustainable economy in our country. Within our part of the Environment Agency we oversee the full range of compliance activities under a number of energy efficiency/emissions reduction regulations and so we offer a great place to develop a variety of skills. We are taking on new duties to support the UK’s drive to reach net zero, and this new role will play a significant part in the implementation of this.

This role will involve:
  • Confirming which organisations need to be regulated by us and registering them.
  • Assessing compliance against of energy efficiency/emissions reduction regulations
  • Providing advice and guidance to those we regulate

  • Reviewing and collating data submissions
  • Interpreting new guidance and legislation.
  • Reporting our progress and outcomes to internal and external partners

  • Taking enforcement action to bring operators/organisations back into compliance
  • Working with external partners in government and private business to review and improve regulation.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

We strive to reflect the communities we serve, and welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion. We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities.
The team
CCTRS is part of National Operations. We regulate and administer various UK Government climate change schemes. The aim is to protect and improve our environment. These regimes are central to ensuring that the UK is meeting our targets relating to greenhouse gas emissions.
The candidate pack and role profile should be read along with the advert to understand the key accountabilities and skills needed.
Experience/skills required
An ability to interpret technical guidance and well-developed problem solving and decision-making skills.

The ability to consistently deliver work to high standards and meet targets.

Using effective written and spoken communication skills to influence and persuade external customers, stakeholders, and internal colleagues in order to deliver results.

Good organisational skills to manage a varied workload, as well as the ability to take personal responsibility for own performance and development.

Good data management and analysis skills.

I.T. literacy and experience of using the Microsoft suite of software

An ability to work effectively autonomously, as well as with others.

Whilst we are working flexibly between office locations and home, occasional travel to offices will be required. Your base location will be Warrington, Sheffield or Preston and you will need to be able to work from the office when required. Travel/commuting to your contractual office base location is at your own expense.
