Manchester Register Office is currently seeking a Registration Officer. This role requires no previous experience, with full on-the-job training provided. If you think you’d enjoy supporting local residents from all walks of life and a diverse range of communities at some of the most significant moments in their lives, and if you like the challenge of a fast-paced and dynamic public-facing role, this could be the job for you.

As a Registration Officer you would be required to register births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages and civil partnerships as well as facilitate Citizenship Ceremonies, locate and issue historic certificates and provide clear, comprehensible advice and assistance to residents. You will on occasions be required to work across the city at Surestart centres, licensed wedding and civil partnership venues as well as varied religious premises, with transport provided where required. There is also the opportunity to learn to conduct a range of different ceremonies. A willingness to work some weekends and bank holidays is essential, particularly during the Spring and Summer months. Payment for this out-of-hours work is highly competitive.

About the Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a keen eye for detail, a strong customer focus and an eagerness to learn new skills. You must be able to work flexibly and be responsive to the demands and priorities of a fast-paced service. You should have exceptional people skills, tact and ‘emotional intelligence’ as you will be dealing with people at times of tremendous emotion.

Ideally you should have experience of working in a busy office environment, proven communication and customer-care skills of the highest order and some experience of cash handling or financial reconciliation. Previous experience of data handling and working within a legislative framework is also highly desirable.
