Job description
The aim of this post is to provide trainees to deepen and extend their experience of Stroke, with exposure to a range of specialist firms within NHNN and UCLH.
The holder of this post will rotate through various firms. The post holder will have the same educational opportunities and clinical and educational supervision arrangements as the other stroke SpRs with NTNs.
There are numerous educational opportunities in the weekly timetable including the famous Gowers round, the weekly CPC, a weekly teaching seminar delivered by consultants and the monthly SpR Calman regional teaching programme which takes place on the NHNN site. In addition to this there is access to a diverse programme of seminars and lectures at the ION and NHNN and specialist clinics covering the entire neurology/stroke curriculum by arrangement.

2. Neurological assessment and clerking at admission and discharge of all patients.
3. Ensure regular and accurate updating of patient medical case-notes, including admissions notes, continuation notes, VTE risk assessments, discharge summaries and other associated letters ensuring an accurate and full daily record of the patient’s care.
4. Dictation of discharge letters within set timeframe.
5. To take responsibility for updating electronic records including discharge summaries.
6. To liaise closely with the full range of MDTs involved in their care. Attendance and support for MDT meetings as required by the Firm.
7. Attend ward rounds with the Consultants and visit the Firm’s patients daily.
8. Ensure all patients have a documented Predicted Date of Discharge and that any changes are amended and communicated to the ward team and patient.
9. Ensure patients are optimized for timely discharge.
10. Work with other staff and departments to ensure tests and drugs are ordered and administered.
11. Teach of PG and UG students.
12. Provide immediate response when instructed to attend emergency assessment of stroke and TIA patients in the ED, both on thrombolysis and non-thrombolysis pathways (when on HASU/stroke rotation).
13. Complete Hospital at Night Team report online (when on HASU/stroke rotation).
14. Assist with audits and research projects

This post will allow the ACCS trainee to have the opportunity to experience at first hand the unrivalled experience of Neurology/stroke that The National Hospital has to offer in a way that should provide a sure foundation for later practice in any medical setting.

The primary responsibility of the post holder is the day to day supervision and medical management of the inpatients under the care of the named Consultant Neurologist. This will be working with several sub specialist firms and across several settings (National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCH and Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy).
You will be working within Queen Square Division with sub-specialist teams which are multidisciplinary in nature and led clinically by the Consultants in that team. You will primarily be attached to a subspeciality and provide cross cover for colleagues in other teams. You will work closely with the following staff:
