Ward 40 is a 18 bedded Oncology ward, that looks after patients that are receiving Chemotherapy, Neutropenic Sepsis, complications from treatment and end of life care.
You will be responsible for identifying appropriate patients that meet the selection criteria, following the pathway and providing monitoring, holistic support and follow up. Working within this environment will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your clinical, managerial and leadership skills in order to facilitate and develop the service.
In addition, you will play a key role in ensuring effective communication between patients, carers, clinical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

As an effective role model, you will be involved in using your own knowledge to develop and enhance the development, skills and competence of others. You will actively promote the service and participate in auditing the service in terms of measuring patient satisfaction, reduced length of stay and increased safety.
You will have the opportunity to use specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice to provide a high standard of care and maintain patient safety. Although working primarily alongside the virtual ward, you will also be required to work flexibly between the in-patient ward and triage area as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PATIENT CARE, CLINICAL EXPERTISE AND CASE MANAGEMENT
1.1 Manage a delegated caseload of patients, as appropriate within the speciality, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
1.2 Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the service.
1.3 Adopt a range of the Chief Nursing Officer 10 key roles appropriate to client group in order to improve and streamline patient care and patient experience.
1.4 Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the specialist area, ensuring the delivery of appropriate evidence based care.
1.5 Support, assist and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems, by the provision of new and innovative models of case management.
1.6 Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.
