Job description

The Sister/Charge Nurse is accountable and responsible for the twenty four hour care delivery and management of the Coronary Care Unit. The Sister/Charge Nurse will promote and monitor safe and effective
practice, enhance the patient experience, provide effective leadership and management and contribute to the delivery of the Trust/Divisional objectives.

Responsible for leading and coordinating the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of a defined clinical area, ensuring adequate systems are in place to support continuity over 24 hour/7 day period.

  • Act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines & Policies including Health and
Safety initiatives, and will be guided on a day-to-day basis to advise others and implement care.
  • Responsible for development of departmental guidelines and polices in conjunction with
clinicians and ensure staff adhere to these policies
  • Ensure that Trust policies and Procedures are implemented with regards to staff management,
Health and Safety, Infection Control, COSHH, Manual Handling, Confidentiality, Risk
Management etc
  • Adhere to the Control of Drugs Act and ensure it is understood and carried out with regard to
the care and custody of drugs/medication.
  • Be familiar with the Trust’s organisational structure and key individuals within it.
  • Maintain a high standard of care and give courteous reception to all patients and visitors.
  • Adopt a patient orientated approach to work
  • Practice in a cost effective and cost aware manner
  • Be fully conversant with the trust major incident plan, and ensure that all nurses within the department understand the procedures and actions.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
  • Take responsibility for patients property and valuables according to Trust policy
