We are recruiting for experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses who are interested in our very busy Day Surgery unit at the Nottingham University Hospitals based at The Nottingham Treatment Centre. The post is for a 9 month secondment in recovery. Full and Part time hours considered.

We care for a wide range of day surgery and elective major surgical patients and consistently receive positive feedback.

Day surgery is a journey for our patients from admission to discharge.

To work as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing safe and effective care for patients during the perioperative and post-operative period.

To work in a variety of different areas throughout the service including anaesthetics and recovery for day surgery patients.

To participate as an integral member of the theatre team and work with the multidisciplinary teams.

You would participate in the supervision and training of students and junior staff with training onto the supervisor course package.

To co-ordinate the patients journey from admission to discharge.

Actively participate in annual appraisal and PDP in accordance with Trust policy.

Undertake mandatory training in accordance with Trust and departmental requirements

Assist with the department's training needs by teaching students and junior staff in accordance with departmental and service training philosophy

Act as an effective role model at all times.

Act as a supervisor/assessor for individual students and learners, undertaking appropriate qualifications to support this role.

Managerial

Work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that effective high quality care is given to meet patient’s needs.

Undertake the management of a defined clinical area when required in accordance with personal competencies and level of experience, including allocation of staff and resources to ensure high standards of patient care.

Plan and evaluate care given by junior staff, providing support and assistance when required to ensure that the development needs of all staff are met.

Ensure that effective communication is maintained with other members of the multidisciplinary team, patients and their carers, exchanging information to aid problem solving and decision making.

Participate in clinical audit as required to support the improvement of patient care within the perioperative period.

Maintain and enhance effective working relationships

Contribute to development within the department including participation in team meetings, audits, new ways of working and initiatives to improve the delivery of the service.

Undertake additional roles to support the team and promote self-development, commensurate with knowledge and skills. e.g. Risk officer, mandatory trainer, infection control link role.

Practice with full regard to Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures.

To work at all times within the framework of the NMC/HCPC Codes of Professional conduct.
