An excellent opportunity for a Staff Nurse who is committed to high quality care for babies and their families to join our Neonatal Services. Working as part of a team of Medical Staff, Nurses, Nursery Nurse and a Housekeeper, you will be responsible for providing the highest standard of evidenced based patient care.
The Neonatal Services are at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospitals. The Division is progressive and innovative, continually striving to improve services for children, young people and their families.
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse you will require RN/RN Child with evidence of professional development. Completion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Course is desirable but it is essential that you are willing to undertake this if not already qualified in speciality.

The Neonatal Unit at Doncaster has 3 ITU cots 3 HDU cots and 12 SC cots. It cares for babies from 27 weeks gestation
The Special Care Baby Unit at Bassetlaw has 8 Special Care cots and cares for babies from 32 weeks and above. Both units promote excellence in Neonatal Nursing Care and can be a very special and rewarding environment to work in.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- At all times request patient confidentiality and in particular, the confidentiality and in particular, the confidentiality of electronically/manually stored patient/personal data, in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.
- Be aware of individual responsibilities and maintain a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act. Identify and report immediately any untoward accident, incident or potential hazard.
- Participate in Performance Development Appraisal.
- Develop IT skills as required in line with Trust developments.
- Attend all mandatory lectures and in service training as identified at Performance Development Appraisal.
- Adhere to Trust and Divisional policies and procedures.
- Contribute to reviewing and developing policies and procedures.
- The prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of al health care personnel. Staff members, in conjunction with all relevant professionals will contribute to the prevention and control of infection through standard infection control policies and compliance with the Trust’s infection control policies in order to ensure the highest quality of care to patients.
- Participate in first line resolution of complaints in line with Trust policy.
- Contribute to and change practice in response to corporate developments.
- Undertake manual handling in accordance with Trust policies, appropriate to the working environment.
- Contribute to and change practice in response to Clinical Service Unit developments in practice.
- Contribute and participate in the audit process.
- Contribute to service development and modernisation activities at a Clinical Service Unit and Trust level.
- At all times to work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2002). Ensure the nursing activities within the ward/unit reach the required professional standard.
- Conform to Trust Drug Policies, report discrepancies immediately they are discovered.
- Maintain registration in accordance with the NMC requirements.
- Maintain the highest standard of patient care at all times.
- Utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively in a highly stressful environment with patients and those involved in their care. The post holder must also communicate effectively with staff in the Trust, in other organisations and with the general public. Utilise specialist communication skills where barriers to understand exist.
- Complete necessary training for the scope of professional practice as appropriate to the clinical environment and manager’s expectations.

- Be responsible for admission and discharge of babies, ensuring record keeping meets the Trust standard.

- Continually develop skills, knowledge and experience in order to obtain a place on the Neonatal Intensive Care Course within an agreed timeframe.
