In addition, although the role advertised may have a ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

The successful applicant will be an NHS employee and may therefore have contact with vulnerable service users. Unless exempt, we encourage and support staff to be vaccinated as this remains the best line of defence against COVID-19.

Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate Band 6 Charge Nurses to join our team at Sowenna Unit.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions and will be required to work flexibility with long days and some degree of flexibility.
Safe and effective delivery of care will be expected alongside compliance with The Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Professional Conduct.
Sowenna, meaning “success” is Cornwall’s first Children and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) Inpatient Unit providing treatment for young people aged between 13 and 18yrs and working collaboratively with the Community CAMHS teams, ensuring a seamless whole service approach.
Our emphasis is on providing a therapeutic environment, offering a holistic approach to treatment in a safe and supported space which promotes rehabilitation and recovery. We work with various professionals, carers and community staff to ensure effective delivery of care and a planned, safe and timely discharge.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that the clinical environment is such that all interactions with young people and their families convey a sense of care, promote dignity, and enhance therapeutic relationships. Act as a role model for junior staff of all professions, and in a manner, which positively reflects the values of the organisation and in a way, which will ensure that effective communication pathways exist with internal and external stakeholders aimed at developing current models of care.

To participate in service evaluations, research, and audit activities and to lead on the implementation of service modernisation and improvement projects.

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
