Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered mental health or learning disability nurse within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit. Mill Lodge provides specialised inpatient care for young people between the ages of 13 and 17 with a range of mental health difficulties. Working with young people and their families is highly rewarding and can provide high levels of job satisfaction.

We would welcome applications from both experienced nurses and nurses needing to complete their preceptorship for this post, including those qualifying around September/October 2023. LYPFT offers a high level of preceptorship support with regular learning and development days alongside support from your preceptor at Mill Lodge. We also offer a preceptorship support group within the service.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with young people, be able to show initiative and work within a nursing team alongside a wider multidisciplinary team. Clinical supervision will be provided on a regular basis and all relevant training will be available with opportunities to develop any particular interests. We use a range of therapeutic approaches at Mill Lodge with key ones being trauma informed care and Systemic Family Therapy. All nurses are also trained in providing NG feeding as an intervention for young people.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.

There are many benefits of working for LYPFT including fantastic employee wellbeing support, 27 - 33 days annual leave, flexible working and remote working arrangements, the NHS Pension Scheme (LYPFT pays 20.6% into your scheme each year), coaching, support and opportunities for career development and training and education support alongside a range of exclusive discounts and payment schemes including for cars, extra leave days and more organisations such as Blue Light Card, Health Service Discounts and NHS Discount Offers.

We also have an incredible bank department, offering variety of roles in nursing, allied health professions, healthcare support worker and administration clerical. Permanent employees are automatically added to bank. Bank-only workers can choose the hours they want to work and will have the opportunity to gain additional experience, keep skills up to date, develop new ones and earn extra money without having to commit to a permanent role. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a high level of care and support for young people between the ages of 13 and 17. This will include shift co-ordination and leadership with the support of the senior nursing team. You will act as keyworker for a small number of young people and work with them to develop risk management plans, care plans and positive behaviour support (PBS) plans. These plans will direct the care and interventions provided for each young person and you will be involved in delivering this daily.

You will be responsible for carrying out medication rounds and ensuring that NG feeding is facilitated as per care plans. You will be involved in supporting a team of experienced health care assistants to carry out their role and more experienced band 5 nurses will be involved in delivering supervision.

Newly qualified nurses will be supported by an experienced nurse for all their shifts whilst undertaking their preceptorship.
