Barnwell C, a trauma and orthopaedic ward with 27 beds in four bays of six beds and three side rooms, has an excellent opportunity for a registered or newly qualified nurse or international qualified nurses with a skilled workers visa. The post holder, will provide holistic, high-quality, patient-focused, comprehensive, efficient, and safe care for our patients and also acting responsibly, accountable, ethically, reporting adverse events and poor practice to the person in charge, as well as follow NMC and local standards of care and rules.

The nurse/midwife must use resources appropriately and participate in service enhancements. To assist Trust business and patient care, the post holder may circulate between other wards and departments.

Barnwell C Ward treats medical directorate and orthopaedic trauma patients with fractures and musculoskeletal disorders.

Consultants, doctors, registered nurses, occupational and physiotherapists, health care assistants, ward clerks, and housekeepers make up our multidisciplinary team.

The ward can be difficult, but helping the interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families during treatments is a great way to learn. The ward nurses will support us as a team.

The departmental head will also support your preceptorship, practice supervisor, and practice assessor training. This course will help you mentor new nurses and students and promote high-quality, holistic nursing care based on clinical evidence.

The role of the nurse/midwife is to provide a holistic, high quality, patient focused, comprehensive, efficient and safe service for the patients cared for at Kettering General Hospital. You will act with responsibility, accountability and integrity; reporting adverse events and poor practice to the person in charge.

The registered nurse would be expected to effectively and responsibly use resources and engage in change and service improvements. Standards of practice at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH) are aligned to the standards set out by the Nursing & Midwifery (NMC) Code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwifes (2008). Standards of practice and care, at KGH, also encompass the Chief Nursing Officer’s 6 C’s campaign and concentrate the nursing agenda on Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment.

The post holder may be required to rotate through other wards and departments as required to support Trust business and patient care.

The post holder will act at all times in accordance with the NMC code and local standards of care and policies.

Kettering is convenient to Northamptonshire's scenic countryside. The hospital lies off the A14, providing quick access to the M1, and has good road and rail links to London, the East Midlands, and Birmingham.

Key roles and responsibilities of a nurse/midwife are as follows:

A clinical practitioner who is developing their expertise within their speciality

An effective role model who emulates good practice and professional standards

A motivated, dynamic practitioner who supports the ward team in striving for improvements in care and practice

Works within own limits of competency provide a holistic package of care that meets the patients psychological, social and physical needs; as dictated by patient pathway and clinical condition

Act responsibly as a team member and seeks help whenever necessary

To implement relevant clinical assessment tools and risk assessments.

To cover clinical workload and other duties in the absence of other staff of the same or lower banding.

To be aware of safeguarding procedures, ensuring that they maintain their knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act Assessment, Deprivation of Liberty and Best Interests to ensure patients overall safety within clinical environment

To work effectively and communicate with the multi-disciplinary team regarding patient care notifying and escalating to them any changes in patients condition or other useful information. Contribute in effective handovers of patient care between shifts, other departments and other healthcare providers.

To communicate effectively with patients and carers regarding all aspects of care, admission, preparation for procedure, care delivery post procedure, discharge, medications etc. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation and explanation will be needed. Barriers to communication may be physical, cognitive or cultural; i.e. poor hearing, altered perception, pain, or fear. This might be complex, sensitive or contentious information where empathy and reassurance is required.

To maintain confidentiality at all times in relation to patients and their treatment.

To take responsibility to ensure that Professional Registration is up to date at all times and does not lapse or expire and to inform line management immediately with any concerns or if registration lapses or expires.

Maintain effective relationships within the trust by attending team and departmental meetings. Annual leave is requested in a timely manner in line with Trust policy.

Sickness/ Maternity/Paternity and Special leave is notified to the department/ line manager in accordance with Trust policy.

To complete patient documentation in a concise, accurate and timely manner in line with departmental, Trust and NMC standards.

Informed consent to treatment is obtained and documented in accordance with Trust procedures. Keep accurate and complete records consistent with legislation policies and procedures.
