An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 5 Virtual Ward Community Nurse for Scarborough and Ryedale. Have you ever wondered if working on a Virtual Ward in the community might be for you? This is a perfect opportunity to give it a try.
The Virtual Ward aims to deliver hospital-equivalent care to patients while they remain in their own home or another community setting. It offers significant improvements for patient outcomes and will help hospitals cope with spikes in demand.
As a registered nurse you will enjoy both coast and moors as you travel around providing holistic assessment and treatment to housebound patients. You will be part of a Virtual Ward team including ACPs, nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists and healthcare assistants and have access to specialists such as continence nurses, tissue viability nurses, diabetes nurses, speech & language therapists, dietitians and more!
You will be supported for your initial training and induction to the role to gain the competencies to practice safely & effectively with confidence.
As this role is Virtual Ward based some post registration experience is preferable along with clinical skills used in Community Nursing.
As a Community Nurse, you will work within an integrated hub model of Community Nurses, Specialist Nurses, Community Staff Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nursing Associates, Assistant Practitioners & Health Care Assistants to meet the needs of the complex patient in the community and avoid admissions to the acute sector as far as practicable. This includes (once competencies have been achieved):
- Intravenous Antibiotic administration;
- End of life care;
- Managing the deteriorating patient;
- Complex and simple wound care including VAC therapy and compression therapy;
- Phlebotomy;
