Duties and Responsibilities Carry out annual reviews delegated by a supervising Nurse or senior colleague Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate, assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programmes to promote health and well-being, and prevent adverse effects on health and well-being Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals Family Planning - Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs and contraception Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical adult and children safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse Ensure all mandatory training is completed on an annual basis including; safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity etc Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines Able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written) Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Assisting GPs with minor surgery, vasectomy and family planning clinics Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times Assist in practice audits, CQC compliance evidence and QOF recalls Take lead on local incentive project relevant to role Cytology Childhood Immunisations & Vaccinations Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or Senior Nurse to agreed protocols Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary Advise patients on general health care with referral to GPs as necessary Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment Essential The Nursing Associate must meet the specific qualification and training requirements as specified in the Nursing Midwifery Standards of proficiency by having undertaken and completed the two year Foundation Degree delivered by a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - approved provider and is registered with the NMC and revalidation is undertaken in line with NMC requirements Desirable Experience of working within a healthcare setting Quality Management Support elements of service evaluation and audit systems Support the provision of required reports, statistical and qualitative information as part of wider PCN system, and for DHPL specific purposes Support the monitoring of care quality and compliance with agreed standards Contribute to QI approaches with PCN partners to continue the growth and evolution of the services for the community we serve General Management Effective personal planning and organisation of daily workload Flexible working and self-management of working time effectively and accordingly to service demands Professional To adhere to local and professionally prescribed codes of ethical conduct and practice To maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation and local policies and procedures Maintain respectful, effective professional interpersonal relationships with others Will be accountable for own professional actions To attend all mandatory training as required by the Trust and to undertake further training and updating as required to carry out the role Maintain a professional portfolio, which demonstrates development in reflective practice
