Job description

AFC: Band 7 permanent

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week (minimum 30 hours per week)

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, based at our Women’s hospital, is a leading Perinatal Centre and one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the UK. We are the designated Neonatal Surgical Centre for West Midlands Operational Delivery Network and accept in-utero and post-natal transfers from throughout the West Midlands. We deliver outstanding care to some of the west midlands sickest babies from 22 weeks gestation. As well as caring for new born babies with surgical conditions we also care for sick and premature new born babies with medical conditions and babies born with congenital abnormalities such as diaphragmatic hernia and cardiac lesions. We are host to the West Midlands Human Milk Bank and we serve a maternity department delivering 8,500 babies per annum.

There is close working with our partners across the Birmingham Local Maternity Service and this will be maintained and developed. We have excellent professional development opportunities including cross site working with our Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Neonatal Surgical Ward. We offer a family friendly environment for our local community and region. The post holder will need to be adaptable, flexible, resilient, able to work the full range of clinical shifts over the 24 hour period and line manage a team, with support.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced clinical nurse to join for our Neonatal Service on NICU at the Birmingham Women’s hospital, part of the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital foundation trust. You must have current experience working in a neonatal intensive care environment, but also be able to ensure care delivery to the whole spectrum of the HRG level 5-1 neonatal service specification, including safe discharge to our developing community service. Outstanding communication skill is required for this post with current experience supporting the operational workforce.

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is the first of its type in the UK. Our Trust was formed in February 2017 to drive forward our commitment to provide the highest quality, world-class physical and mental health care for our women, children and families.

Uniting our hospitals means more seamless care; more investment to make greater advances in our specialist treatment and world-leading neo-natal and fetal work. Importantly, it also gives us a greater voice in shaping the future of family-centred care.

Birmingham Children's Hospital is a UK leading specialist paediatric centre with an international reputation in several areas. Birmingham Women's Hospital is one of two dedicated women's hospitals in the UK, with the busiest single site maternity unit, delivering more than 8,200 babies a year offering a full range of gynaecological, maternity and neonatal care. Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) Mental Health Services are a unique, innovative community and inpatient mental health partnership. Alongside partners FTB offers care pathways of mental health assessment and treatment for young people aged 0-25 years old.

Our Trust is committed to creating the best place to work. We believe in promoting and enhancing inclusion, diversity and equality and encourage applications from all areas of the community, who meet the criteria for the role, regardless of age, gender identity, disability, race, religion or sexual orientation.
