Your new role
National Highways currently has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager, based in the Southeast England, to join the Health Safety and Wellbeing team in Safety, Engineering and Standards (SES) division.
As Regional Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager you will provide expert support, advice and assurance to the Southeast region. Working closely with Regional Director and their delivery teams you will have the opportunity to shape health and safety performance within National Highways and its supply chain on a daily basis, with the aim drive continual improve and to support a cultural shift in the organisation. You will lead a small team of safety professional in the Southeast and working collaboratively the national Operations team and central colleagues, to support National Highways with our Home Safe and Well ambition.
There will be flexibility to work from any of the Southeast regional locations.
What you’ll be leading on
- Leading and supporting a small team of health and safety professionals by providing line management, guidance and direction to help ensure local and national delivery.
- Ensuring the provision of competent, practical and pragmatic health and safety advice and support.
- Working collaboratively with local delivery and project teams to ensure adequate assessment and control of National Highways risks.
- Being a dedicated focal lead with supply chain organisations on health and safety matters that span across areas or programmes of work and ensuring adequate client oversight.
- Challenging and improving the efficiency of incident investigations and ensure proactive and corrective action in response to risk management failure
To be successful you will
- Have previous management experience in leading dispersed teams
- Demonstrable experience in managing and assuring health and safety in design or construction, preferably working for a major infrastructure asset owner or developer
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, its interpretation as translated into good health and safety practice
- Experience of relationship and stakeholder management
- A degree, NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent and membership of a recognised safety professional body, e.g. IOSH
- Ability to build excellent collaborative relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders.
