Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of Yorkshire & Humber (Local Authorities) Employers’ Association (YHEA).
We are looking for someone to become the new Regional Employers’ Director at YHEA. The successful person will lead the full range of the strategic and practical work of the Association and the Regional Employers Functions on; employment, organisational development issues, industrial and employee relations, and YHEA governance matters.
YHEA exists to:
- Enable our member authorities to establish collective coherence on employment matters across councils and fire and rescue authorities.
- Facilitate constructive engagement and partnership working with national organisations and other regional employers’ associations.
- Provide advice, support, information/data and research services to member organisations.
- Provide consultancy services, learning opportunities and OD/HR interventions.
- Facilitate positive engagement with trade unions at regional level.
- Provide mediation and dispute resolution services, sometimes in partnership with trade unions.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong commitment to, and a sound grounding in, good HR/OD practice
- Has a sound understanding of the role of local authorities and the positive outcomes they can deliver.
- Can engage effectively with member organisations and customers, involving councillors, senior managers, trade unions and national organisations.
- Can develop a sound business and income strategy for YHEA and implement it successfully.
- Will be a good advocate for local government and the work of YHEA.
The role is home working based but may require some travel around the Yorkshire & Humber region and occasionally outside the region. The postholder will have flexibility in how and when they deliver their work, subject to the needs of YHEA and its customers.
The role is for 22.2 hours per week with a spot salary of £41,870 per annum, equivalent to £70k for a full-time role. Pay award pending from April 2023.
YHEA is an independent organisation with its own legal personality as an Employers’ Association, therefore it has its own governance arrangements and can trade with a range of customers. YHEA is hosted by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, the postholder will be employed by the council but will be functionally accountable to YHEA.
