Job Role: Refugee Support Worker
Salary: £23,240 - £24,612 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract type: Six month fixed-term contract
Location: Our office is based in Kingswood however frequent travel across South Gloucestershire will be required
Additional information:
- Driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance is required for this role
- Occasional evening and weekend work will be required, an on-call rota may also be introduced but is not currently in force.
The Role
The successful Refugee Support Worker will support and empower individuals and families that are resettling in South Gloucestershire. The support you provide will be client-centered and tailored to each individual's needs, including access to healthcare, education, housing, benefits and meaningful occupation. Within the role you will give families the knowledge and tools to be fully independent in their lives in the UK
Responsibilities include:
- Support individuals and families in a manner that prioritises their empowerment and independence
- Take a lead professional role in coordinating multi-agency support around the family, including organising and leading meetings between the family and the professionals supporting them
- Support families to access schools, English classes, suitable housing, welfare benefits, healthcare and wellbeing services, employment and training
- Provide support and guidance through a drop-in arrangement at community and other sites
- Create and maintain up-to-date support plans with clients
- Support families to secure independent accommodation when the hosting provided by sponsors comes to an end
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Previous work with refugees or other vulnerable people/families
- Empathy and understanding of the needs of Refugees who have experienced trauma and who have complex needs
- Experienced and confident in group work settings
- A valid UK driving license and access to own vehicle business insurance will be required for roles involving travel for work
