We hope to provide our placement students with an insight into the daily internal workings of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. The student will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement. There also may be ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of work where appropriate. You will be responsible for achieving specific work objectives, agreed with you, in a set length of time within one of the various departments across the UK. As you are recruited to support or complete particular objectives, you will have a real responsibility and place in the department, bringing some of your skills and experience to the role; you will also have the chance to develop workplace skills. Young People and this role Our placement opportunities are open to people at different stages of their career, aged 15 or above. Whether your student, a recent graduate or someone with more experience looking for a career change, we would be happy to hear from you. We value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. Anyone can volunteer with the Red Cross from the age of 15. An individual risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 15 – 17. The nature of the activities specific to your placement opportunity may mean that you need to be 18 years or older. Why we want you: This placement is an opportunity to volunteer within a small and supportive team who are working to provide relief and support to asylum-seekers living in Hull. The role will be to provide support to the team on our existing projects which includes casework and triage within a drop-in setting, and to provide orientation and integration activities to asylum seekers in Hull as part of a short term goal focussed project. This role would suit someone who has excellent interpersonal skills. Reference To be provided to the Volunteering & Youth team. Location Remote working is possible, but we operate a hybrid model of work, with participation taking part at The British Red Cross, Units 1-3 The Worx, 1, Beverley Road, Hull HU3 1XS with a staff member to assist and with covid secure measures in place. We also hold a drop in every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at Welcome House, 3 Wright St, Hull, HU2 8HR Department Refugee Support Reporting to Lucy Marshall Hours This internship will last a maximum of 12 weeks volunteering. We will be flexible but are looking for a commitment of at least 12 hours p/wk. If you are available and interested in undertaking more hours then this can be arranged. The hours are negotiable to balance your needs and what can be achieved in the role. The ideal days for the service would be Tuesday and Thursday, with Tuesday being most preferable but we will be flexible with this. This may be negotiable between you and your line manager.
