About the Service/Department
We are Hestia, a vibrant charity supporting adults and children in crisis. We have a service within the borough of Wandsworth delivering support and interventions to 60 service users with mental health issues living in accommodation services across the Borough.

We promote independence and prevent hospital admissions whilst providing a person-centred approach enabling choice and control for each individual.

About the role
To engage service users in regular and comprehensive assessment, support planning and safety planning processes, ensuring that all plans and assessments are person-centred and user-led.

Some other main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To advise on and broker access to health services, education, training and employment opportunities related to the needs and aspirations of each individual within the service in conjunction with the Specialist Workers
  • To work flexibly as part of the team to ensure service coverage and that contractual obligations are met, including being part of a rota
  • To work in partnership with all appropriate external agencies involved in the support of service users

About you

  • Demonstrable experience of working with people who have complex issues and health problems and a strong understanding of Recovery approaches and co-production
  • Knowledge of housing pathways, housing legislation and housing management experience including income collection from personal service charges and Housing Benefit
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect
  • Ability to empower service users to make choices and take control for their mental health in order to realise their potential and achieve aspirational levels of independence
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of peer staff and volunteers
  • Commitment to co-producing service delivery with service users by ensuring that all activities and interventions in the service are aligned to support them to reduce their MH crisis and develop strategies for better managing their own mental health
  • Ability to communicate, engage and build effective working relationships with other people
  • Excellent working knowledge of Welfare Benefits and strong awareness of health and safety issues within an accommodation-based setting
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills and able to produce professional letters and correspondence in hard copy and email
  • Ability to assess and audit peer assessments, support and safety plans and to use reflective practice and a whole team approach in continuously improving
  • Proficient in the use of a range of IT applications and the ability to learn and use additional IT systems including Hestia’s case management system
  • Ability to complete and record accurate financial transactions and knowledge of managing budgets
