You will be a member of a team that deals with the recovery of Council Tax, National Non Domestic Rates and Traffic Offences.
About the job
The opportunity has arisen to join the Recovery Section, working with colleagues to ensure our performance targets are met.
You will be responsible for taking prompt and appropriate action to recover debts owed to the Council, in accordance with the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007.
Daily duties include making outbound calls and taking inbound calls from the public to discuss outstanding debts and fines and finding the best solution on how to recover the outstanding balances in an efficient manner. This will involve a negotiation process therefore well developed communication skills are important.
What We Are Looking For From You
You will be a highly motivated individual who is able to work under pressure as the post requires daily deadlines to be met. In addition, records must be monitored and maintained, therefore good IT skills are required.
The position involves daily telephone contact with members of the public therefore it is essential that you are able to demonstrate confident and assertive communication skills and strong negotiation skills are desirable. Due to the nature of the role, calls can be long and complex and therefore experience of debt recovery would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
A detailed knowledge of Council Tax/Business Rates and Traffic Offences is essential however previous experience in debt recovery is desirable as training will be provided.
Additional information
There are 2 Permanent positions available.
Office attendance is required for the duration of the training period. Once you are fully trained and able to work independently, hybrid working will be available however regular office attendance will still be required on rota basis.
