SAAS is an executive agency of the Scottish Government and responsible for assessing and paying student awards for Scottish domiciled students in Higher Education throughout the UK. We administer budgets of around £1.4 billion each year, making payments to both educational institutions and over 190,000 students a year. The SAAS Recoveries team sits within the wider Finance Directorate which incorporates Counter Fraud, Finance and Procurement and has in excess of 25 staff.
The Debt Recovery team are responsible for controlling, collection and reporting of all overpayments of debt and comprises, the B3 Senior Recoveries Manager, 2 x B1 Recoveries Team Leaders, two A4 Senior Recovery Officers and four A3 Recoveries Officers. The Recoveries Officer supports the standard overpayment process for recovery of student funding.

SAAS has separate arrangements from core Scottish Government for Public and Privilege holidays. After taking up post in SAAS you will take the Spring Friday and Monday holiday in late May/early June together with the September half day. SAAS office is fully closed between Christmas and New Year.

- Adding cases to the Debt Management System, identifying and implementing appropriate debt recovery action by email, telephone call or by letter following team guidance.
- Using debt negotiation skills to secure payments or repayment plans within guidelines.
- Considering if escalated action is necessary and appropriate based on case history, issuing letters where required to warn of potential action.
- Escalation of complex cases to A4 recoveries specialists where appropriate.
- Dealing with student enquiries received via telephone, email or in writing.
- Providing a customer focussed and professional service to students and stakeholders, including solicitors and sheriff officers.
- Handling cases with sensitivity and compassion.
- Working as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities as required.

Additional Information
SAAS has separate arrangements from core Scottish Government for Public and Privilege holidays. After taking up post in SAAS you will take the Spring Friday and Monday holiday in late May/early June together with the September half day. SAAS office is fully closed between Christmas and New Year.
SAAS are currently operating Hybrid Working Arrangements combining office attendance with Working From Home. Potential candidates can discuss in more detail with the Recruiting Manager.
