Job description
The Receptionist will work within the reception team at the main branch of the Red House Surgery, Chesterton Road, Cambridge. They will be responsible to the Reception Manager Person profile: The Receptionist holds a position of importance, being the crucial link between the doctors, staff and patients. They are required to work as part of the Practice Team acting as a focal point of communication between the GPs, Manager and other members of the Primary Health Care Team. This key person will be confident, discreet, organised, conscientious, and computer literate.
Full training will be given in all aspects of the job. Reception duties include the following: Attend to patients at the reception desk, deal with their enquiries, book appointments with a variety of different clinicians. Answer the telephone and deal with all enquiries. Provide information and help to doctors, nurses, patients and colleagues.
Clerical duties will include the following: Sorting and actioning a variety of day to day correspondence. Using our medical computer system for a variety of tasks, e.g. making and cancelling appointments, adding patient details, processing repeat prescription requests and updating the database. Invite patients to attend the surgery for specific tests/procedures, ensuring quality of care targets are met.
Extracting and accurate filing of medical records, letters and reports. Summarising paper medical records onto the practice computer system. Taking messages, making telephone calls for hospital appointments, obtaining test results etc. Assisting with a variety of administration and tasks as and when required.

Clothing must be of smart appearance. You will be required to wear a name badge, which will be provided for you.
We hold regular staff meetings, which you are expected to attend. The meetings provide an opportunity to discuss matters arising from the job and can be used for in-house training. As these sessions occur during a lunch hour, refreshments are provided. All staff are required to attend and/or carry out on-line essential training as instructed by the Practice Manager i.e.
Fire & Safety, Health & Safety, Safeguarding Children, Information Governance, Resuscitation. This post requires a keen, enthusiastic, flexible and friendly person who has the ability to adapt to a variety of duties and who is willing to take on any tasks that may be required to ensure the smooth running of our Surgery. Confidentiality In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.
In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. Staff must co-operate with the employer insofar as is necessary to enable a duty or requirement to be performed or complied with.
