About this role: Medical Receptionist

Under the supervision and direction of the Health Center Manager, provides support to patients and co-workers by performing, with accuracy and timeliness, a variety of clinical and administrative tasks in different areas of the health center.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) non-exempt, position at our Anchorage health center. The pay range is from $16.76 to $25.14. Placement in the range is dependent on experience. A generous benefit package is also offered.
$1,500 Sign-On Bonus included (Terms based on contingency)

What you’ll be doing:
  • Responds to patient requests and coordinates services. Answers questions, provides patient education and referrals. Provides excellent customer service to patients and co-workers. Assists with keeping appointments on time and optimizing the flow. Performs all front office responsibilities as required by the health center.
  • Assists patients by responding to requests and coordinating services from appropriate personnel or departments as needed.
  • Establishes and prepares documents for patient records and patient services; completes patient insurance information and enters visit data into affiliate systems.
  • Provides non-judgmental, client-centered care, and provides accurate information by answering questions and providing appropriate resources.
  • Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of birth control methods and reproductive health services to provide patient education. Provides Planned Parenthood Patient Education Sheets (PES) and Informed Consent Forms (ICF) and offers Planned Parenthood services or community resources for identified patient needs.
  • Provides patients and co-workers with excellent customer service in all interactions and tasks. Utilizes service recovery when appropriate and seeks assistance from co-workers or the health center manager to ensure resolution.
  • Completes all functions of patient check-in including income screening, explanation of funding, and payment options. Explains the different types of coverage or funding available to the patient and refers patients for assistance with health care insurance sign up when appropriate.
  • Optimizes patient satisfaction and efficient use of provider time by providing patient education appropriate to each type of visit.
  • Keeps appointments on schedule through ongoing communication with the PCTL, the clinician and the health center manager.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
  • Records and collects patient payments and solicits donations. Follows organizational guidelines to improve collections and minimize uncompensated care.
  • Acts as a resource for other staff members, supports and participates in ongoing learning and development of the staff team in the health center.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to and complying with infection and exposure control procedures; OSHA, WISHA, CLIA, PPFA, and affiliate policies and procedures.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance standards regarding patient privacy and confidentiality and follows all other compliance requirements.
  • Maintains health center operations by following policies and procedures; reports needed changes.
  • Identifies and assists in resolution of health center flow issues.
  • Participates in agency research projects as needed.
  • Performs all front office responsibilities as required by the health center.
  • Participates in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
  • Responsible for completing training, current certification and competencies as assigned.
  • Maintains job knowledge by attending meetings and trainings as required.
Front Office Responsibilities:
  • Opens and closes the front office independently.
  • Ensures all forms and materials are stocked and ready for patient contact.
  • Performs tasks in the front office including, but not limited to, checking patients in and out; selling supplies; answering phones; quoting fees; ordering and maintaining supplies; and a variety of clerical tasks including running reports and collecting necessary data.
  • Participates in the revenue cycle by maintaining patient accounts; obtaining, recording, and updating financial information at appropriate intervals; recording and collecting patient payments; and follows organizational guidelines to improve collections and minimize uncompensated care.
  • Complies with agency cash-handling procedures and completes accurate daily reconciliation of monies before posting a batch.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with the needs of the health center as determined by the manager, including but not limited to pregnancy options education, medication abortion education and consent, as well as other tasks as needed; complies with all applicable policies and procedures in the provision of these services.
  • Participates and completes new and required training in a timely manner and maintains current status on certifications and competencies as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:
One- or two-years’ experience in a medical setting preferred.

License:
None required.

Compensation: PPGNHAIK's compensation philosophy is based on equity and transparency. Starting offers are determined by both the candidate's directly applicable experience and internal equity within the pay grade. The pay range is $16.00 to $25.00 paid (annually or hourly).
Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccinations and is required prior to starting employment with PPGNHAIK.
