Pay Range: $15.25-$21.07 per hour.
Your starting hourly wage will be directly based upon years of relevant experience to the position. We will give you full credit for each year of past experience you have.
Basic Job Function and Responsibilities
Greet all patients in a professional and cordial manner whether in person or on the phone. Answer phones promptly and determine patient needs. Assist patients by answering questions, updating demographic information, scheduling appointments, collecting payments, and directing them to the appropriate person for their need. Screen calls and take messages for other clinic staff and record daily entries for patient activity in the medical record.
Job Duties/Performance Expectations
- Greet patients and visitors, determine their needs, and respond in a professional manner.
- Monitor insurance eligibility data, obtain appropriate authorizations when required.
- Maintain a neat and orderly reception room.
- Answer phones, screen calls, take messages, and route calls as appropriate.
- Record, verify, and update patient demographic data, insurance data, and patient consent/authorization in System each time the patient comes to the clinic as indicated in Mercy Clinics Policy and Procedure manual.
- Prepare / provide patient with visit appropriate paperwork.
- Schedule / Cancel / No-Show patient appointments, and utilizes the recall and waitlists as indicated Mercy Clinics Policy and Procedure manual.
- Monitors reports as indicated by the Office Manager.
- Communicate delays and other important information to patients, visitors, and the clinic team.
- Scan results from referrals, tests, and orders into the patient medical record as soon as they are received. Attach to the appropriate order and send resulted order task to the ordering provider for review.
- Prepare all mail for delivery and route incoming mail as appropriate.
- Report any need for supplies and equipment repair to the Office Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education
- High school diploma required with additional training in a medical secretary preferred.
Experience
- Ability to deal with public in a professional and cordial manner at all times.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Experience with computers required.
- Experience as a receptionist preferred.
Certifications
- Current Basic Life Support validation or successfully complete BLS course within 3 months of date of hire - Required.
