Could you use your communication and / or administration skills to support our local alcohol treatment and substance use recovery service in Haringey?

HAGA and Haringey Recovery Service (HRS) work collaboratively in the same building to offer free support and treatment to people wanting to make changes to their substance use.

HAGA helps people make changes to their alcohol use, through both one-to-one support and a group programme, as well as access to counselling and help with areas such as physical and mental wellbeing, housing and finances. The service can also help provide detoxes.
HRS supports people to sustain their recovery from alcohol or drug use, working with people to make positive changes, develop new relationships and try new things.

This role involves assisting the service by welcoming people to the service on reception, alongside a staff member, and offering help with queries, as well as some supporting administration.

Activities may include some or all of the following:
  • Helping with the admin and resources for group activities
  • Welcoming callers to the service and introducing new visitors to the building
  • Ensuring calls are dealt with courteously, transferring calls to the appropriate person or taking messages
  • Responding to requests for information about Humankind and our services
  • Liaising with staff and service users to gain feedback about the service which helps inform decisions and support
  • Adhering to policies related to areas such as safeguarding, information governance and health and safety
Location:
HAGA / HRS are based on Seven Sister’s Road, N15, a 10-15 minute walk from both Seven Sister’s and Manor House underground stations. There is also a bus that stops neat the service.

Timings:
The service is open Monday to Friday, 9-5 each day except Tuesdays 9-7. We are hoping to involve 2-3 volunteers who could support for one or 2 days per week, or shorter days, we can work around school timings for example.

Training:
Volunteers have access to Humankind’s training platform, Learningkind, and will be asked to complete a number of training modules within their first 3 months, many of these are e-learning modules. One session on Safeguarding is delivered by trainers zia Zoom, and is 6 hours (with breaks) – there are a range of dates but please do keep this in mind.

  • Clear verbal/written communication skills
  • A confident and friendly approach
  • Ability to speak calmly and with patience to people who may be distressed
  • Moderate IT skills – we can help you build on current skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • An understanding of the importance of guidelines and procedures relating to key areas such as safeguarding and information governance
  • Respect for all service users and team members
  • Willingness to attend and complete relevant training
  • Willingness to participate in regular supervision sessions with your supervisor
