The Role
We are currently looking for exceptional people to join our team and have a great opportunity for a Receptionist.
At Hotel Gotham we don’t discourage a little bit of decadence. After all, we’ve yet to meet the guest who books into a 5-star hotel with the aim of behaving better than they do at home.
Each of our 55 bedrooms and five Inner Sanctum Suites is a full-on sensory experience. Everything the guests see and everything they touch, from the extravagantly opulent linen to the brass and leather of the fittings, is designed to make them sigh with satisfaction.
As our Receptionist you will set the stage for a sumptuous hotel experience offering opulence and luxury. Give our guests the amazing VIP treatment from when the curtain lifts on entry to the hotel, along with during hotel check in and departure. You must be fully flexible working 5 over 7 days and a variety of daytime or evening shifts.
You’ll join a friendly, talented and dedicated cast who deliver exceptional service. The ideal candidate will have superb personal presentation and terrific team spirit. As a Receptionist you will be responsible for maximising room revenues in line with the Company’s standards, providing efficient and courteous service, to ensure total guest satisfaction.
The ideal candidate would posses outstanding communication and organisation skills and have the ability to prioritise tasks. At least one years’ experience in a similar position is essential.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
- To be familiar with the days business, including arrivals, departures, and special requests.
- Deal with guests promptly upon arrival and departure, as per Company Standards for check in and out procedures.
- To have a good understanding of the guests’ requirements when they are checking in or out.
- To ensure all cash, charge, float and till procedures are carried out in accordance with company Policy.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of all services and facilities of the hotel, as well as local area. Therefore, ensuring our guests are assisted effectively.
- Keeping the team up to date by attending the daily meetings.
- Maximise sales through up-selling, using incentives and promotions
- Ensure all customer enquiries and requests for bookings are dealt with promptly, courteously and efficiently
- Ensure prompt resolution of customer complaints
- Professionally and competently operates the telephone system in line with both operating and Company Standards.
Requirements of the role:
- To have worked in a hotel or with people in a customer related role.
- Excellent Customer service skills, to be able to follow standards and to have good organisational skills.
- To be able to make decisions in a fast paced environment and to enjoy it
- To be able to communicate well to each other and guests
- Be able to use a phone and computer system.

Our old bank
Gotham is located at 100 King Street in the central conservation area and is housed in one of the city’s grandest, listed buildings - a former premises of Midland Bank. Standing at the head of King Street, proudly atop the hill amidst architectural nods to the Grecian and Baroque, Hotel Gotham draws inspiration from these surroundings and rises up like an imposing castle of stone and steel. Designed by Edwin Lutyens in 1928 in the Art Deco style of the time, is it any wonder it was referred to as ‘The King’? In terms of architecture, the neoclassical design is unusual for Manchester. But we quite like that. We celebrate difference at Gotham.
Behind the scenes
Hotel Gotham naturally draws attention to itself. It hit the national news in 2010 when it was alleged that safe deposit boxes containing jewellery and gold, not to mention master tapes from Joy Division and New Order recording sessions, were found on the site. Gotham was always going to be unpredictable and make a statement. It was always going to be a unique experience, a spectacular destination, with a taste for the theatrical. This is why we wanted to bring it to the Manchester Stage. At Gotham, we believe that luxury is as important as location and history. We believe style should complement substance, and we are not too taken by the idea of compromise. We don’t see Gotham as your average hotel. From day one it was always going to be special.
